What this site is

Tabletop & Ledger is an informational reference to classic board games, card games, party games, and logic puzzles. Every game page walks through setup, rules, scoring, common mistakes, and variations in plain English, and our Stories section covers the history and culture behind these games in more depth than a typical rules sheet.

All of the games covered here are long-established, public-domain classics — games like chess, checkers, backgammon, hearts, and dominoes — that belong to no single publisher. We don't cover modern commercially licensed games, and nothing here uses official rulebooks, branded artwork, or box art from any publisher.

Our principles

• Every rules explanation is written in our own words, based on how these games are commonly played.
• We don't run ads, sell anything, or track visitors beyond a basic, optional cookie preference.
• There are no user accounts, comments, ratings, or reviews anywhere on this site.
• We call out when rules commonly vary by region or household, rather than presenting one version as the only correct one.
• We link games to their real history where it's genuinely documented, and we're careful about which stories are well-established versus disputed.
